Buon Natale! This lovely bambino sends holiday greetings from Italy, her country of origin, where she must have been on display in a Milan shop during Christmas seasons of the 1930's and 1940's. She arrived at her present caretaker's home in the condition shown, complete with her original iron stand marked with the manufacturer's label (most of it is illegible, so it will be presented as a visual). Her sculpted hair and placid expression are purely Shirley (click the image at left for a close-up), but her coloring has the touch of an olive complexion and darker blonde hair than was usually presented in the States. Standing over 48" tall, this perpetual 8-year-old stood guard in my studio while one cat in particular constantly curled up at her feet, convinced his new buddy was human. Now she's on display in her new home, and he still does the same thing. By the way, one of the gift boxes under the tree can be "opened" to reveal another Yule surprise.
